WEBMASTER'S NOTE: Check out the project that this associate has accomplished.  It is truly a fine job of creating a model of a train car that has not been offered by any manufactureres at a reasonable price ever.  A few models of this train car have been availabel as fairly expensive models quite a few years ago, but they are not readilly available on the market any more.  If you are interested in modeling the Milwaukee Road Hiawatha from the mid 30's, you really should take a few minutes to look at that project.  Perhaps you might convince this Associate to make a similar model for you, or help you make one of your own.  Let us know if you are interested and we can put you in contact with this Associate

     PROJECTS:

Modeling the Milwaukee Road Beavertail in HO scale

I can think of no more unique observation car ever having been used by any railroad than the Milwaukee Road's beavertail observation cars.

In 1934 the Milwaukee Road, along with most other railroads in the United States, began efforts to reattract the ever dwindling numbers of passenger customers. The automobile and then the airplane were making steady inroads into the passenger business. Faster speeds, newer accomodations, air conditioning, good food, and style were the primary tools used to effect this change, and it worked.

Modelers wishing to purchase the resin casting for mounting to an Athearn round top coach to fabricate a model of the Beavertail as shown in the "Project" section accessed by the link above should contact Winona Shops - Beavertail Castings

LAYOUT PHOTOS:

1)  This overall view below is only one very small portion of the entire layout.   The picture on the far wall is a representation of the rock shape known as "Sugar Loaf" and is well know as a landmark of the Winona area.

2)  Below shows a duck-under that has models of two bridges.  The black one in the back is a turn bridge,  the silver one in the front is a lift bridge.  Both are powered and can be made to move very slowly to the opened or raised position to allow the fictitious river boats to pass and then slowly returned to their original positions to allow the trains to cross in the normal fashion.  They are fasinating to watch.
